|
| Location: |

| Education: |
SUNY Purchase, Music Theory, Guitar studies. Studied with local Jazz great John Hill.
|
| David has been playing guitar for over 25 years. First learning rock guitar from an old beat up Strat he found in the trash. A child of the eighties, he quickly got into Eddie Van Halen and Jimmy Page. He was taught Jazz/Fusion guitar by renowned jazz musician, John Hill during his High School Years. David played in numerous bands, never playing covers, but sticking to a set of originals he wrote and performed with his band “Crossfire”. Influenced heavily by the blues styles of Stevie Ray Vaughn and Eric Clapton the styles molded him into a top notch improvisational guitar player. His favorite pass time is freestyle jamming with his life long guitar buddies until the late hours of the night.
Also pointing his talents at film and video, David has recently scored his first feature length independent film “The Traveler” in which he wrote and directed, as well as, scored with a 60 track classical landscape of classical music.
David’s teaching style is based on infusing his knowledge of music theory into the learning of your favorite songs. First you have fun then you learn why what you are playing sounds so good and works so well. He has found that this approach lends itself to the most comprehensive and interesting lessons as students can jump into music right away and learn without even realizing they are learning.
David enjoys teaching beginners all the way up to experts and has had previous student guitar players, such as “David Holvig”, go off to play arenas with the Rebecca St. James Band and others, like “Derek James”, form his own band (The Derek James Band) and tour the US, which he is currently doing.

| A passionate songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist, Marianne began her musical journey at the age of six, studying piano in her hometown of Santa Barbara, California. In a few years, she became a multi-instrumentalist on the flute, guitar, and oboe, as well as a classical singer by the time she was 15. Winning a oboe concerto competition while in high school pointed her in the direction of being a professional oboist, as for the next several years she studied with the finest first-chair oboists in the country (John Mack, Marc Lifschey, and William Criss), and at the Cleveland Institute of Music and San Francisco Conservatory.
Marianne has worked as a member of the Nashville, Santa Barbara, and Utah Symphonies, and appeared as a vocal soloist with the Nashville Symphony during the 10 years she was as tenured musician (oboist) in the orchestra. She worked as “first-call” musician in Nashville, where she played hundreds of performances and recording sessions with such artists as Roy Orbison, John Hall, Nanci Griffith, Rachel Sage, Rob Mathes, and numerous others.
On the other side of her muse, Marianne has had a flourishing career as a singer/songwriter, performing nationwide in clubs, concerts, music festivals, and healing settings, both as a solo artist and with her own band. Her credits include featured vocalist in the feature film, “Men Seeking Women”, as well as backup “sideman” and vocalist for such national acts as Nanci Griffith, John Hall, and Joel Sonnier.
Marianne has three recordings of original music, two as a singer/songwriter (Strange Girl and Full of Wholes, which features her on the oboe, flute, guitar, piano, songwriting and string quartet arranging), and an entirely improvisational album as an oboe player in duet with four different keyboardists in the Rockland County, New York area (How The Light Gets In). Most recently, Marianne has been working with Music For People (David Darling), a non-profit organization which teaches musicians and non-musicians alike how to improvise, both in music and in life itself.
Marianne teaches oboe, guitar, voice, and music theory privately in the New York area , and is adjunct teacher at the Rockland Conservatory and Rockland Country Day School.
