Experience

  • Adeline has been playing the flute since 2008 and teaching students of all ages and abilities since 2018. Her teaching philosophy is to encourage her students and inspire their love of music. Her belief for teaching is that every individual has their own creative mindset that is enhanced through the lessons and musical decisions they make when playing. Adeline emphasizes the importance of individuality, therefore she designs lessons tailored to each student’s goals. She holds her students at their maximum potential, showing no less than their best. Additionally, she encourages both mental and physical health through promoting good habits, incorporating body mapping into her lessons and establishing a personal relationship with her students.

Bio

Adeline D. is a contemporary flutist and chamber musician based in New York City. She is specifically interested in commissioning and performing works for alto and bass flutes, bringing their lush sonorities and extended timbral possibilities to new audiences. Adeline is a Trevor James Low Flutes artist. Additionally, she is a founding member of Dice Trio, an ensemble committed to commissioning boundary pushing and socially-engaged works for flute, saxophone, and trumpet.

Recently, Adeline was selected as a performance fellow for the SPLICE Institute, Nief-Norf Summer Festival, and the Composers Conference Contemporary Performance Institute, where she collaborated with composers to premiere new works. She has attended the Consummate Flutist at Carnegie Mellon University and le Domaine Forget de Charlevoix in Québec, and has performed in masterclasses for flutists Robert Dick, Leone Buyse, and Mario Caroli.

Outside of performing, Adeline has experience in a variety of administrative roles. She is the Social Media Content Manager and Assistant to the Artistic Directors for the Music from Angel Fire festival. Recently she fulfilled roles as the membership administrator/marketing director of the Association of Body Mapping Education and a playtester at the Flute Center of New York. She has previously worked as a technology producer for the National Flute Association, and assisted with organizing and recording the Purchase Flute Studio Commission Project.

Adeline is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in the Contemporary Performance Program at Manhattan School of Music, where she is a student of Tara Helen O’Connor and Studio Assistant to the program. Adeline earned a Master’s degree in flute performance from the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College, where she was the Graduate Assistant to the head of the Classical Division. She received a Bachelor’s degree in flute performance from Columbus State University as a student of Andrée Martin.
