Catherine began studying piano at age of four. In 2007, she began her professional composition lesson with composer Jung Min Ahn, now the music director at Choong-Mu Art Hall in Seoul Korea. Since then Catherine has written for various combination of chamber orchestra, chamber ensemble, choir and also electronic music. She also collaborated with dancers, theatre, film and art installation.

Catherine completed her Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition at University of Hartford—the Hartt School in West Hartford, Connecticut where she studied composition with Larry Alan Smith and Ken Steen (Electronic Music), and piano with David Westfall, Paul Rutman, and Susan Cheng. She went on both the Hartt School Dean’s List and the University President List during her academic years.  Catherine was selected for a Kountz Fellowship 2013-14 based on her commendable work during the course of studies as a BM composer at the Hartt School.

Catherine finished her Master’s degree in Classical Music Composition at Manhattan School of Music with Richard Danielpour. She is currently based in New York City and actively writing new pieces. Her three new written pieces were premiered in 2017 during Sforzando Composers Collective Concert series.

Catherine is currently acting as co-founder and Executive Administrator for Sforzando Composers Collective, which is an association of four composers currently based in New York City created in January 2017. The association is comprised of graduate composition students from the Manhattan School of Music who seek to participate in the organization, production, and collaboration of new multidisciplinary artistic works.

Catherine is also a passionate piano instructor, currently teaching K-12 and adult students in the city.
