Private teacher in Violin and Viola. My students got accepted to Juilliard Pre-College, Montclair, Rutgers in violin performance and regularly get featured in local newspapers and win all state NJ auditions. She has taught students privately and in conservatories for over 25 years.

Bio

Catherine Y. began her violin studies in Korea at age of 6, and when she turned 8 she won Music World Magazine competition series with Gold prize, Korean Daily Newspaper Gold price and Yoo-kyoung competition in Seoul Korea and won a Grand prize winner competing with all instrument/age group of Gold prize winners. Catherine then entered Juilliard School at age 9 studying under famed Dorothy DeLay, Hyo Kang and Naoko Tanaka. She actively gave recitals at Paul Hall, Lincoln Center and performed with Inter-School Youth Orchestra of NYC at Alice Tully Hall as one of the soloist. And Verdi Quartet concert at the Italian Cultural Institute NYC. She also gave violin/piano duo performances in Aspen Music Festival in Colorado summers of 1988-1992 as a scholarship recipient. She debuted at Weill Carnegie Hall at age 12 at NYC during her studies at Juilliard.

She then entered Manhattan School of Music NYC studying with Peter Winograd. While earning her BM/MM, she played with Kurt Masur Conducting Seminar in collaboration with the Manhattan School of Music as a chosen member of the orchestra. She was part of a Haydn project and other performances at Caramoor Center in Katonah NY. She played at Kennedy Center, Washington DC with select musicians. She was associate concertmaster to perform Verdi’s Requiem with Kent Tritle at Cathedral of St. John the Divine, NYC.

Catherine has given solo concerts playing Beethoven Romance op. at Weill, Carnegie Hall and at Merkin Concert Hall NYC playing Mozart Violin Concerto No.5 with Korean Chamber Orchestra. She also performed as a soloist with Symphony of Westchester 2021, playing Bach A minor concerto.

Recently she played concertmaster with New York Festival Orchestra at Lincoln Center, Frederick P. Rose Hall Lincoln Center Sept. 2023. As an orchestra musician she has performed at Alice Tully; Avery Fischer Hall at Lincoln Center; Issac stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall, NJ PAC and Bargemusic, NY.  She is a current concertmaster of New York Festival Orchestra with Maestro Hirai and Assistant Concertmaster of The Symphony of Westchester with Maestro Barry Hoffman. She is principal second violin, section first violin rotation with New Jersey Festival orchestra with Maestro David Wroe.
