Oboist Chanmi K. was born and raised in Seoul, Korea. As a young girl, she fell in love with classical music and dreamed of being an opera singer. Later, she discovered the vocal qualities of the oboe and began to study in earnest. Chanmi has performed concertos with many orchestras, including the Seoul Youth Orchestra and has been giving solo recitals since she was fifteen. Chanmi has performed in masterclasses with Alex Klein, Maurice Bourgue. Since moving to the United States she has completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the New England Conservatory, studying with Keisuke Wakao. Master of Music degree at Mannes School of Music – The New School with Sherry Sylar. Currently, she is working on her Professional Study Deploma in Oboe with Ms. Sylar. She also acts as Ms. Sylar’s assistant, as well as a member of Missouri Symphony every summer. With her love of chamber music, she and her few colleges have founded 13th Street Winds, and have been actively performing in NYC area. In her free time, Chanmi is an enthusiastic baker and cook, as well as a passionate karaoke singer.
