Experience
Emmett has been teaching for 7 years in various formats. He taught for two summers as the sole guitar teacher at the Brubeck Institute Summer Jazz Colony, and has upheld a vibrant private studio.
Bio
Guitarist Emmett S. grew up in Staten Island, New York. He attended Laguardia High School where he first discovered and fell in love with jazz. After high school Emmett attended the Brubeck Institute Fellowship program for one year, where he studied, performed, and toured with an elite band of young musicians from across the country. Emmett graduated from Oberlin Conservatory with a BM in Jazz Guitar as well as the Wendell and Bettye Logan Prize in Jazz Studies. Emmett won second place in the Jarek Smietana International Jazz Guitar competition in Krakow, Poland. Judges for this competition included Mike Stern and Peter Bernstein. Emmett has won YoungArts Finalist and Merit awards in Jazz performance and composition. Emmett is currently based in NYC and plays around the city at venues such as Birdland, The Django, Dizzy’s, Arthur’s Tavern, St. Tuesdays, and Brvshcvltvre.
