Bio

Ethan A. is a regular freelance trumpet player in New York City, previously spending a portion of his career in Chicago and the greater Midwest region. He won the audition for 2nd trumpet with the West Michigan Symphony in May of 2023 and has also appeared in both pops and masterwork subscription concerts with the Illinois Symphony, Quad City Symphony, Carmel Symphony, Dubuque Symphony, Evansville Philharmonic, as well as the Bronx Opera Orchestra.

Ethan is also an avid chamber musician, having started the West End Brass in Nashville, Tennessee in 2018. As a part of West End Brass, Ethan was selected via competition to tour Berlin, Germany and provide educational concerts and masterclasses to local music programs while also getting the chance to study with regular members of the Berlin Philharmonic. West End Brass also won Continuous Motion Productions chamber recording competition and recorded a new work for brass quintet by composer Nicolas Townsend.

Ethan is an accomplished educator with experience in both private and public school music programs as well as his own private teaching studios in Nashville, Chicago, and now New York. He feels equally at home teaching in classroom settings or in one-on-one instrumental instruction. Ethan also currently works with Education Through Music as a general music teacher, by helping put music education in New York City public schools that don’t have a program already started. While originally from northwest Arkansas, Ethan received his Bachelor of music degree from Vanderbilt University with Jose Sibaja and his Master of music degree from Northwestern University studying with David Bilger, Tom Rolfs, and Michael Sachs.
