Experience
For over 25 years, she has organized a significant number of annual and semiannual recitals for
her private violin students. Notably, some of her students have won scholarships from
symphony leagues and have been accepted to youth symphonies in CA and NJ areas.
Joan is skilled at helping students build a solid foundation in playing the violin.
Bio
Joan is a highly experienced musician with an extensive career in music and education. She
was a concertmaster and played a solo violin concerto in her high school orchestra in Korea
before earning her BA degree at an Ivy League women’s university in Korea. She then
continued her music education at NYU graduate school before receiving her MA at CA State
University, Sacramento.
Joan has performed as a chamber musician in various locations including Korea, NY, CA, and
NJ. She served as a 2nd violinist at the Modesto Symphony Orchestra, CA conducted by
James Stephen, and performed as a 1st violinist at the Sacramento Bach Festival, conducted
by Peter Aston. She also served as an assistant concertmaster at Holy Trinity Church for an
anniversary concert and at numerous other holiday concerts in CA and NJ areas.
After relocating to the East Coast, Joan earned a degree in Special Education and worked as a
licensed special education teacher in NJ and NYC for a significant period. Despite her career
shift, Joan has continued to provide music lessons and perform as chamber musician.
