With over 10 years of teaching experience, Kaila brings a passion for music education to every lesson. Before relocating to NYC, she maintained a private studio of 10+ students in the Hartford area. She has worked with students of all ages and skill levels; her teaching philosophy is focused on creating an atmosphere where students feel free to explore their musical voices and make mistakes. Kaila ensures that students grow as musicians and connect their musical pursuits with their broader life goals.
Bio
Kaila is a cellist based in Manhattan, New York. Originally from Connecticut, she began playing the cello at the age of four. She studied at Bard Conservatory, earning a Bachelor of Music in Performance under the mentorship of Peter Wiley. During her time at Bard, Kaila served as principal cellist of the Bard Conservatory Orchestra and received honors including winning the Connecticut Youth Symphony Concerto Competition and earning a prize at the Hartford Musical Club Competition.
An avid chamber musician, Kaila has performed alongside esteemed artists such as Luis Garcia-Renart, Peter Serkin, Raman Ramakrishnan, James Bagwell, and Dawn Upshaw. Her performances have brought her to prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, David Geffen Hall and the New York Public Library in New York, as well as internationally to Cuba, China, and Italy. Before relocating to New York City, Kaila was a substitute cellist for the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. She remains an active performer and continues to engage in solo, chamber, and orchestral performances around the city.
