Experience:

Kimmie has taught kids as young as 8 through high school/college age. Kimmie used to run sectionals at her highschool as well as 3 youth orchestras on Long Island. Kimmie has participated and helped train children for NYSSMA’s solos.

 

Education:

McGill University Class of 2019, Bachelors degree in Trumpet Performance with a second major in Philosophy.
Attended Juilliard’s Pre-College Program 2013-2015.

Kimmie S. is a dedicated musician who specializes in Orchestral Trumpet playing. Kimmie is a recent graduate of the Schulich School of Music at McGill University with a double major in Trumpet Performance and Philosophy. As a New York native, she attended Juilliard’s Pre-College division in high school where she studied with David Krauss for two years. She was a member of NAFME’s All State, All Eastern and All National Orchestra under the direction of Gerard Schwarz in 2015. She was also a featured soloist at Metropolitan Youth Orchestras performance at Carnegie Hall. Kimmie also won the Long Island Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition and preformed the Hummel Trumpet concerto in June 2015. She has spent past summers at Chosen Vale, Boston Universities Tanglewood Institute, NYSSSA, Summer Brass at Menlo Park, Atlantic Brass Seminar and has taken two summer courses in Philosophy and Law at Harvard College. This past summer, Kimmie played with the Berlin Opera Academy orchestra as principal trumpet for various productions of Mozart Operas. In her time in Montreal she played with Orchestra Symphonique de L’isle, Griffon Brass Band, Ensemble Sinfonia, McGill Wind Symphony and the latin rock band Radio Infusion. She currently studies with Paul Merkelo, principal of Montreal Symphony, and Ethan Bensdorf, second trumpet in the New York Philharmonic. Kimmie has hit the music scene once again in NYC as a member of Cameratta Notturna and North Shore Symphony as she applies to graduate programs in performance this year.
