Matt is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.A. in instrumental music education. Matt has taught individuals, chamber groups, and large ensembles ranging in age from 2 to 75. He believes that musical creativity and freedom comes from an engaged technical foundation.
Matt has taught piano in private studios for 4 years. In these lessons he has prepared students for recitals, auditions, and helped prepare them to attend various performing arts schools around the Mid-Atlantic. The styles taught range from classical, to pop, jazz, and Broadway. In addition to piano, Matt also teaches voice and trumpet. No matter the instrument, a strong sense of exploration and music theory is developed and nurtured.
Matt has also directed several groups including the Quaker Women’s Acapella Choir, the award winning Ramifications, and the VCU Trumpet quintet. Currently, Matt is also the director of music education programs at the Riverside Symphony.
