Nick P. has been teaching electric and upright bass, piano, and guitar, for several years in private and group settings. As a freelance bassist in multiple NYC bands, Nick provides real-world insight while teaching jazz, pop, rock, and classical.
Nick is pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree at New York University, where he studies Jazz Bass.
Bassist Nick P. has become an increasingly prominent voice in the New York City music scene with roots in the San Francisco Bay Area. Over the last three years, he has performed in the San Jose Jazz Summer Fest in addition to several local venues on both coasts, such as Greenwich Village’s Bar Next Door and San Francisco’s Club Deluxe. He composes original music for his own quartet, which performs regularly in the New York area.
Throughout his time in New York, Nick has collaborated with a vast array of artists, including saxophone legend Ralph Lalama and Queens-based songwriter duendita. He also performs in NYC rock bands Octopus and Daptain Hook, in which he plays electric bass. From January to May of 2018, Nick studied in Paris, where he performed at the renowned club Duc Des Lombards alongside Parisian pianist Sébastien Paindestre. Nick plays on both coasts with saxophone legend Richard Howell’s quartet, whose tribute to John Coltrane’s landmark album A Love Supreme was named one of the top ten acts of San Jose Jazz Summer Fest.
In addition to his work as a freelance performer, Nick has taught at the Stanford Jazz Workshop for five years, directing student combos and leading a bass masterclass. His instrumental abilities also include piano and guitar, both of which he has studied since childhood. Nick has experience teaching group piano and guitar lessons at Hellyer Elementary School in San Jose, CA.
