Bio
Born and raised in Himeji, Japan, now based in New York City, a pianist/ composer Ryosuke T. has performed at numerous jazz venues including the iconic, Jazz at Lincoln Center as a part of big band directed by Darcy James Argue. As a leader, Ryosuke had the honor of taking part in tours to showcase his compositions and arrangement of jazz standards in Taiwan and Japan. As a sideman, participating Roger Lin’s first album “Whisper of the Isolated Ones” was soon recognized in Taiwan, nominated for The Best Jazz Album for the 12th Golden Indie Music Award, the highest award for jazz category in Taiwan. Ryosuke participated recording projects for Chinese Video Game Company “Papergames”.
Ryosuke began playing piano at the age 3. He started playing classical music and took private lessons weekly. After more than a decade of playing classical music and pop music, at the age of 16, interestingly, background music in a TV commercial altered his path of piano studies. It was the jazz in the TV that drew the attention of his ears. He was fascinated by the sound and groove that came from jazz, and started researching the music. Bill Evans was one of those modern jazz influences Ryosuke had early on. Driven by the passion, he went on to study at Osaka Junior College of Music, where he was determined to pursue a career of jazz pianist. Further his education, Ryosuke obtained Bachelor’s Degree with scholarship from Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied with world-class artists such as Nando Michelin, Alain Mallet, George Garzone, Ralph Peterson, and Hal Crook. Ryosuke completed Master’s Degree in Jazz Piano Performance with scholarship from Manhattan School of Music, where he received mentorship from Aaron Parks and many more.
