Sophia S.

• Sophia began teaching while still in college. She has since taught private flute piano and recorder students from ages 5 to 60 as well as group flute classes.
• Certified as a Suzuki flute instructor, Sophia takes Shin’ichi Suzuki’s philosophy to heart. She believes that everyone can learn confidence, discipline, and the joy of self-expression through studying music. Sophia offers both traditional and Suzuki flute lessons as well as traditional piano lessons. It is her job and her joy as an educator to tailor her teaching style to meet the varying needs, goals, and interests of each individual student.

Bio

Sophia S. is passionate about both teaching and performing. An active freelance flute and piccolo player, Sophia has worked with conductors Pierre Vallet, Ransom Wilson, and Keith Chambers, among others. She appears regularly with symphonies and opera orchestras and particularly enjoys the exhilaration of soaring above the orchestra on her piccolo. Sophia has performed at venues throughout New York City including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Symphony Space.  Sophia has studied with Mindy Kaufman, Keith Underwood and Kathleen Nester.
