Bio

Stephen (Steph) T. is a saxophonist, improviser, and composer based in NYC. His work is dedicated to experimental/contemporary classical music, free improvisation, and conceptual music. As an improviser, Steph plays with Moon Unit alongside Olivia Katz (Cello) and Robert Karpay (Piano) which features long-form pieces using found objects, spatialized sound, and interactivity with performance spaces. They will be releasing their first album at the end of 2025.

Additionally, Steph is the soprano saxophonist and artistic director of Vision Quartet, a New York based saxophone quartet specializing in new works and collaboration. In its first year, the ensemble premiered multiple new works including one by NYC composer Dylan Wolf, who recently wrote a saxophone quartet concerto which premiered at CUNY in April 2025 played by Vision.

Lastly, Steph is part of the COPE Collective directed by Rea Abel. Both Steph and Rea met at the Contemporary Performance Program (CPP) at the Manhattan School of Music. The collective features over 30 composer-performer-improvisers from around New York City. The group functions as an ensemble where members can record, play, and workshop new works at any point in time without fees.

Steph is a student of Erin Rogers, Ashkan Behzadi, and Reiko Fueting and a former student of Philipp Stauedlin.
