Sue is a pianist, composer and educator originally from Seoul, Korea, now based in Brooklyn, NY. At the age of four she began studying piano. She started to play at local churches and cafes when she was 15. Since her passion for music was not limited to one genre, she honed her skills in various genres of music, especially classical piano and jazz piano, and also in composition. Her mentors have been Kevin Hays and Alan Broadbent, who are both legendary pianists and composers themselves. She also plays regularly with her own group, ‘Sue Kim Group’, at various venues around the New York City area including Williamsburg Music Center, Rockwood Music Hall and Silvana. She began teaching privately in 2012 when she was in college. Teaching has been one of her passions since she realized that teaching is as valuable as making good music and it is also a part of the learning process. Because of her various interests and experiences within music, she approaches each student differently and tries keep music fun and interesting for students.
