Bio
Yunus started studying piano seriously at the age of 5. He went on to attend a high school for performing arts, where he switched his concentration to voice, while keeping up with his piano skills. He fully dedicated his studies to vocal performance in college, at Halic University in Istanbul. His experiences there gave him the opportunity to perform all over Turkey, appearing on TV programs such as Rising Stars and The Voice, as well as in performance venues in Bodrum, Izmir, and Istanbul. When he decided to switch to Opera performance instead of pop, he was accepted into the prestigious Opera Institute at Boston University with a full ride scholarship. Upon graduating from the Opera Institute, he went on to complete his first young artist program at Portland Opera, performing the role of Dandini over 60 times all across the Pacific Northwest. Yunus’ recent performance credits include The Infinite Energy of Aida Lovelace (Charles Babbage), If I Were You (Paul), Cosi Fan Tutti (Giuliermo), Our Town (Mr. Webb), Little Women (John Brooks), Alcina (Melisso), Cenerentola (Dandini). In 2023, Yunus was a recipient of an Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, LA District. Yunus is also a teacher of chess, and plays competitive chess in his free time.
