Experience

  • As a music educator, Zhongyang actively teaches saxophone and general music around NYC.

Zhongyang was born and raised in China. He studied classical saxophone and piano when he was in 1st grade, elementary school. Zhongyang actively played at wind ensemble and wind symphony through elementary school to high school.
After Zhongyang finished his high school, he went to Syracuse University majoring Music and International Relations. During his undergraduate life, Zhongyang composed the original sound track for award nominated movie “Haven”. In his senior year, Zhongyang won the 2019 Setnor School of Music Concerto Competition and honorably performed Henry Tomasi Saxophone Concerto with SU Symphony Orchestra in his final concert.
Zhongyang later went to Brown University to finish his first master degree public administration, and he chose to study classical saxophone with Dr. Paul Cohen at Manhattan School of Music in fall 2020. During MSM time, Zhongyang won the 2021 Fuchs Chamber Music Competition and performed at the final concert, and he was also the finalist of 2022 MSM concerto competition woodwind division.
Zhongyang still actively studies with professors and mentors. His main teachers include Dr. Paul Cohen, Dr. Diane Hunger and Dr. Otis Murphy.
