Jamie is a full lyric soprano specializing in Italian and French opera repertoire.  Her current roles include Gilda (Rigoletto), Mimi (La Boheme), Micaela (Carmen), and Vierte Magd (Elektra).  In addition to opera, Jamie is regularly requested as a soloist at multiple venues in the NYC area, including various sacred music concerts as well as private parties and events.  Jamie continues to study voice professionally herself, and utilizes chiaroscuro vocal technique (non voice placement) of the old Italian school based on the Garcia treatise.  She teaches this method of singing to all of her voice students who are of age to learn, regardless of musical style, as a solid foundation for vocal health and longevity of singing.  She supplements this technique with appropriate vocal skills according to age, including solfege syllables and hand signs, singing in cannon, pitch matching, “animal” rhythms, sight reading, diction and language, and audition skills.   Jamie approaches teaching piano in a similar way, using a classical foundation as a basis for all musical styles, including posture, hand and arm position, how to navigate the keyboard, pattern recognition, practice skills and efficiency, music theory, similar vs. contrary motion, and other important skills that a student will need for a well-rounded knowledge of music.  Jamie believes that the most important part of learning an instrument is enjoyment of music and an appreciation for all types of music, and wishes to  include each student’s personal musical style preferences in all lessons that she teaches.
