A native of the Greater Philadelphia area, violist Jenna S. developed a keen interest in music at an early age. Music has brought her to perform in various countries around the world including Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Croatia, and Italy. In one of her most recent performances, Jenna performed alongside Lang Lang and Sting at the 69th birthday of the founding of the United Nations at the United Nations Headquarters with the Lang Lang Foundation.

Jenna has been studying the viola since the age of 7. She began her musical studies with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra and took part in extensive music programs in Philadelphia and New Jersey. In her earlier years she performed with Settlement Music School’s Scholarship Contemporary Quartet. She performed music of contemporary composers with the Auger Contemporary Quartet, including performances at “the underground sensation,” Andrea Clearfield’s Salon. She played for Temple University’s Boyer College of Music Precollege Program for 6 years, during which time she also played for the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra. Venues include the Kimmel Center, home of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Union League of Philadelphia and Carnegie Hall.

Upon entering the Manhattan School of Music, Jenna was awarded the Ruth Chatfield String Instrument Scholarship. She has served as principal violist on numerous MSM ensembles and has received her Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance under the tutelage of Daniel Avshalomov, violist of the American String Quartet. Past mentors include internationally renowned violist Karen Dreyfus, and violist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Marvin Moon. In recent years, Jenna has attended multiple festivals such as the Banff Centre and Bowdoin International Music Festival.  Jenna returned to the Manhattan School of Music to pursue a Master’s Degree, studying with principal violist of the New York City Ballet Orchestra, Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra and American Ballet Theatre Orchestra, Shmuel Katz, while simultaneously working for Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute. Jenna aspires to pursue a multifaceted career in music performance.
