Cellist Jennifer C. has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player across the United States and is becoming recognized especially for her versatility, deep tone, and committed playing. Jennifer has performed concerts at wellknown venues such as Carnegie, Avery Fisher, and Alice Tully Halls at Lincoln Center.
Jennifer has appeared as a fellowship recipient at several music festivals during the summers, including The Aspen Music Festival and School, Music Academy of the West, and Spoleto Festival USA. She has served as coprincipal of the Music Academy Festival Orchestra, Juilliard Orchestra, Juilliard PreCollege Orchestra, and the New York String Orchestra Seminar.
At The Juilliard School, Jennifer has performed in the New Juilliard Ensemble, AXIOM, and the Juilliard Lab Orchestra. As of recently, Jennifer holds the position of a substitute cellist at the New World Symphony. After working closely with esteemed conductors, namely James Gaffigan and Larry Rachleff, she aims to pursue an orchestral career.
As a chamber musician, she has taken part in Juilliard’s ChamberFest in 2012, 2013, and 2014. She is a cofounder of The Hyon Trio, alongside Kevin Ahfat on piano and Julia Choi on violin, who made their Alice Tully debut this past April. She has studied chamber music with distinguished chamber musicians such as David Finckel, Joseph Kalichstein, Jerome Lowenthal, Sylvia Rosenberg, Vivian Weilerstein and members of the Juilliard and Cleveland string quartets. She has taken part in masterclasses with the most prominent musicians and pedagogues today including Frans Helmerson, David Geber, Jerome Lowenthal, Cynthia Phelps, Joshua Rosen, Irene Sharp, Alan Stepansky, and Kathleen Winkler.
While in Santa Barbara with the Music Academy of the West, she gave a standing ovation winning performance of the Brahms Double Concerto with the Music Academy Festival Orchestra after winning their Concerto Competition. Jennifer is also a recipient of awards and honors of several other competitions, including the New York Competition, NJ ASTA Competition, and Eastern Connecticut Symphony Concerto Competition.
After beginning her studies at the age of four, Jennifer was accepted to Juilliard’s PreCollege Division in 2004. Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Music degree and is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree, both at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Richard Aaron. Her other most prominent teachers include David Soyer, Bonnie Hampton, Jerome Carrington, and UkJin Yang.
Born in Korea, she was raised in the United States and is currently based in New York City and New Jersey.
