Growing up as an only child in Greenville, North Carolina, Marta L. has always been surrounded by a family of musicians. In 2011, Marta won first prize in the ASTA Junior Division Competition and received a shared second prize in the 2014 Kathleen Price and Joseph M. Bryan Youth Concerto Competition in collaboration with the NC Symphony.
Marta was a founding member of the Blue Hill String Quartet, which formed at Kneisel Hall in 2014 and continued in New York under the direction of Ronald Copes and Laurie Smukler at The Juilliard School. The group sought and created a number of opportunities to perform in venues including Alice Tully Hall as part of the Wednesdays at One concert series, in beer halls and community spaces in Brooklyn as part of Groupmuse, and recitals throughout the New York region. In April 2015, the BHSQ was awarded first prize in the J.C. Arriaga Chamber Music Competition and was invited to participate in the 2015 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
As an aspiring educator for the arts, Marta seeks opportunities to engage with students at Juilliard and in the community. Marta was recently granted a Teaching Assistant position for ear training under the instruction of Ms. Rebecca Scott, and is a recipient of the Morse Fellowship, a community engagement project that brings classical music seminars and group classes to public schools all across New York City. Marta is also a member of the Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra, which offers a diverse assortment of recitals throughout the year, and strives to bring classical music to underprivileged schools in the form of public performances and group classes.
Marta studied with Melissa Reardon and Ara Gregorian at East Carolina University (2011-2014), and transferred to The Juilliard School where she currently studies with Hsin-Yun Huang and Misha Amory as a recipient of the Juilliard Scholarship Fund.
