Brandon D. is an active improvising musician, working as a bassist and composer in New York City. He is passionate about creating vulnerable, expressive, and impactful music, and constantly strives for those traits in his music. He has performed at notable venues such as the Rex in Toronto and the 55 Bar in New York. Brandon currently resides in New York and studies at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music, partially funded by a grant from the Canada Council of the Arts. He has studied with musicians such as Jay Anderson, Jacob Sacks, and Jim Vivian.
Brandon’s philosophy as a teacher is to best equip students with a strong foundation that allows for them to follow their own musical passions. Especially as an improvising musician, he has found that it is important for a student to have the space to discover their musicianship on their own, and a teacher serves best as a guide and facilitator for this process of discovery.
