Drew S., classical pianist, is from Snead, Alabama. Formal classical training includes studying with Sam Howard in Birmingham, AL and masterclass performances for Gabriela Montero and Bruce Brubaker. Drew completed his Bachelor of Music degree in classical piano, studying with Anthony Pattin, at the University of Montevallo in 2011. Here he also received instruction on percussion ranging from timpani, drum set, and marimba. Drew was awarded his Master’s degree from Manhattan School of Music in 2013 where he studied with the highly sought pedagogue, Phillip Kawin. Drew made his international debut in 2010 at the Echizen International Music Festival in Echizen, Japan where he performed solo as well as chamber works, including the premier of Joseph Landers’ piece Seven Nocturnes. In 2011 Drew won first prize in the AFMC Collegiate Competition, located at Samford University, Alabama. Drew has composed scores for musical theater productions, and also has broad accompanying experience. He is an active performer of contemporary classical music and also composes electronic music. Drew believes improvisation and composition are very important in shaping one’s musical talent and that versatility is essential in musicianship.
